Re-opening the courts

Latest Update: The LTA have revised their guidelines following further announcements from the government. The biggest change is that doubles is now permitted with players from different households. In addition to this both courts will now be available to book and play on. Please do familiarise your self with the guidance below and the differences have been highlighted in bold.

Following the recent announcement by the Government and subsequent detailed guidance from the LTA, we are pleased to announce that the club courts are now open with the following restrictions.  Please read very carefully, including the further clarification in the subsequent paragraphs.

Playing

  • Players should observe the 2-metre social distancing rule at all times taking particular care when entering and leaving the courts.

  • New. Both singles play and doubles play is now permitted with people from outside of your household, as long as you remain 2 metres about as far as possible.

  • New. For doubles, consider agreeing in advance which player will take the shot if the ball travels to the centre of the court.

  • New. Players do not now need to use their own tennis balls however, if you choose to use shared balls than extra care must be taken to ensure you do not touch your face during play, and you should clean your hands before and after play.

  • Players should arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before their court booking and leave when they finish play – however, if no-one has arrived to use their court at the end of their session, they may continue until players do arrive at which time they must vacate the court immediately.

  • Players should bring with them:

    • Ample supplies of water or other drinks.

    • Hand sanitizer to clean hands after touching shared surfaces.

  • Avoid touching your face and cough or sneeze into a tissue or the crook of your elbow.

  • Juniors under 16 must be supervised by 1 adult at all times.

  • Please take your rubbish home with you.

Court Booking

  • All bookings to be made via the website.

  • While we have enabled free use of the courts during lockdown period we will be returning to normal charges as from 1st July

  • Both courts are now available.

  • The maximum length of a session is 60min. Please note that there is 15 minutes between bookings to allow time to leave the court before the next players arrive.

  •  If no-one is waiting to use your court, you may continue playing but must stop as soon as other players arrive to use your court.

Access

  • Access to the courts is via the side gate to the playground.

  • A roped off corridor connects the playground gate to the tennis courts.

  • Please note that the playground remains closed as per the government guidelines.

  • There is a combination lock to the courts and the number will be sent to you on the completion of a booking

  • Consider wearing gloves for opening gates.

  • Take sanitiser with you to use after touching hard services

Safety

  • Benches have been removed from the courts to minimise cross contamination.

  • Nets should already be at the correct height so that adjustment will not be required.

  • The net adjustment handle has been removed

  • Don’t forget to bring your own sanitizer to clean your hands after contact with gates, etc.

  • If you have any concerns regarding safety at the courts please email debden.tennis@outlook.com

  • Please do not leave rubbish on the courts – take everything you bring home with you.

Finally

We on the committee hope you all enjoy the opportunity to play some tennis again.

Hopefully, it won’t be too long before the restrictions can be eased but this will only happen if we all observe these guidelines from the Government and the LTA which are necessary to stop the spread of the virus and keep us all safe.

It is advisable to check this post daily for any updates.

Here are the advice documents from the LTA…
